Biden's decision to hold off on sending heavy bombs to Israel is the right thing
And it makes sense as part of his overall strategy in the region
Along with J Street, Americans for Peace Now, and a number of other pro-Israel Progressive Jewish groups, I support President Biden's decision to hold off on sending the Israeli army the kinds of heavy bombs that it could use in an invasion of Rafah. Biden has made it clear that he has not gotten the assurances he needs from the Israeli government that their plan to defeat Hamas forces embedded in Rafah will take the necessary steps to avoid massive civilian casualties. These particular types of bombs are very likely to cause mass civilian deaths, so Biden is holding off on including them along with other munitions that the US is providing Israel.
The president has made it clear that when it comes to the United States supplying weapons for Israel's defense against any and all who would attack it, he is completely on board.
